Special Incentive Lines (SILs)
Not to be confused with our friends in the training department, SILs are lines awarded that contain no flying, but have pay credit. To be eligible, a pilot must have completed OE, be consolidated, and not be scheduled for (or anticipate) a known absence. This includes vacation, MIL leave, jury duty, sick leave or training. A SIL pilot cannot use leave or accident leave and cannot use their full service bank.
For the July bid period, SILs will be published May 23, bids will close May 28 and awards published May 29. Contractually, SILs have to be offered before other options. High SIL participation may prevent the need for KLOAs. July SIL pay credit is 25 hours.
Known Leave of Absence (KLOA)
For those who really appreciate time off, there will be full-month and half-month KLOAs. To be eligible, a pilot must have completed OE, be consolidated, and not be scheduled for (or anticipate) a known absence. A partial month KLOA could pay approximately 45-50 hours.
For the July bid period, KLOAs will be published May 27, bid will close June 1 and awards published no later than June 5.
There is the potential for move-ups to be approved this summer. A clever use of this option could be to move your vacation out of a summer month to become eligible for a SIL or KLOA. Since vacation is a scheduled absence, its presence would make a pilot unable to take advantage of other options.
